Widening Horizons Health & Fitness Project | Auckland Youth & Community Centre | AYCC

Welcome to our Health & Fitness page

We provide a number of sessions to help people improve their fitness and physical health. We work with a number of external organisations to provide useful sessions accessible to people of all abilities, including exercise classes, sports clubs and cookery classes. Our health and fitness sessions are part of our Widening Horizons Project, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.

Please note that some of our activities are either not running or are running at lower capacity due to COVID-19. Please see our ‘News’ section for our latest updates and our Activity Timetable for the latest information on session times.

Fitness and sports

We have partnered with Michaela, a local fitness and well-being instructor, who usually provides daily sessions designed to help people improve their health and fitness at all levels of ability. We have a large Sports Hall at AYCC available to hire by external providers, which has been used by Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club as well as various other organisations in the past.

Healthy eating

We hold regular cooking and “cooking on a budget” sessions with local partners to help people understand how to eat healthier, whilst also saving money. We have modern kitchen facilities available for hire by external individuals and organisations, which were renovated in Summer 2020. We also involve children and young people attending our After School Club and Youth Services in healthy eating and cooking. We have recently partnered with local supermarkets to deliver free healthy meals to children during the October 2020 half term.
