Welcome to our Widening Horizons Project
The Widening Horizons Project (WHP) was launched at Auckland Youth and Community Centre (AYCC) in December 2016, with the intention of lasting 3 years. In 2019, we received confirmation from the National Lottery Community Fund that we have secured additional funding, allowing us to run the WHP for another 3 years (until November 2022). We are now in the WHP’s fourth year.
The initial WHP (WHP1, 2016-2019) was a great success, meeting all of our yearly targets. We receive regular, positive feedback from people participating in the WHP as well as our partners. The continuation of WHP (WHP2, 2019-2022) has an enhanced focus on crisis situations. You can see the four outcomes of WHP2 below.
Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, our Widening Horizons Project is helping to support and inspire local people to:
- Improve their health and wellbeing
- Improve their financial resilience
- Develop skills for education and employment
- Improve their confidence and self-esteem
- Try out new things in a friendly and supportive environment
- Access a greater number of mental health support services
- Combat loneliness – with something for everyone
Our Widening Horizons outcomes are:
Outcome 1: Children, young people and adults will have improved physical and emotional health and wellbeing.
Outcome 2: Children and young people will have improved personal and social skills, confidence and respect for their own community.
Outcome 3: Children, young people and adults will have improved financial resilience and capacity to deal with crisis situations by accessing preventative, responsive, tailored support.
Outcome 4: Socially isolated people will have improved opportunities to engage in social, recreational and educational activities, thus reducing loneliness.
